An impressive large-scale vintage Italian art glass vase featuring clear hand-blown glass enclosed within a sculptural wrought-iron cage.
The vase has a beautifully elongated form with pronounced vertical ribbing. The clear glass interacts dramatically with the dark hand-forged metal structure, which terminates in decorative ball-shaped finials and radiating feet.
The construction is characteristic of the distinctive caged-glass technique associated with Murano production during the mid-20th century, in which hot glass was formed in conjunction with a metal framework to produce an organic interaction between glass and iron.
The piece is stylistically associated with work produced by Seguso and other Murano workshops during the 1930s-1950s.
